Software Engineering for Fintech
Led by Arie van Deursen
Develop methods, tools, and technologies to radically innovate the software-intensive financial sector.
The financial sector is highly software-intensive. Its correct, reliable, and secure functioning is crucial to society posing high demands on software engineering for the financial sector. At the same time, its software-intensive nature offers unique opportunities for the adoption of disruptive technologies such as crypto-currencies, natural language processing, and scalable online payments.
FinTech, collectively refers to software technologies tailored towards the domain of finance. Within SERG, we conduct FinTech research aimed at strengthening and leveraging the software-intensive nature of the financial sector. Our FinTech research transcends the software engineering boundaries, and is conducted in close collaboration with other (Delft) research groups in such areas as databases, distributed systems, natural language processing, and software security.
We presently conduct our research in the following projects:
- AI4Fintech Research, with partner ING. Within this (large) project, we work together with many researchers and ING engineers in such areas as testing, security, software analytics, and model lifecycle management. The project is led by Arie van Deursen and Luís Cruz.
- UBRI, with partner Ripple. Within this project, we develop novel automated testing techniques for blockchain-based systems. This project is conducted together with the Delft Blockchain Lab. Contact Annibale Panichella for more information.
- MIPL: with partner Adyen. Within this project we explore Mining Internet Payment Logs. We leverage log data to improve security and software engineering processes. This project is conducted together with the cyber-security section. Contact Maurício Aniche or Sicco Verwer for more information.
- Some of our published work: “Monitoring-aware IDEs”, “Tracing Back Log Data to its Log Statement: From Research to Practice”, “An Exploratory Study on Faults in Web API Integration in a Large-Scale Payment Company”, “An Experience Report on Applying Passive Learning in a Large-Scale Payment Company”
- Spreadsheet Engineering and Analysis, with partner Infotron. Spreadsheets are widely used for (financial) decision making. We seek to develop methods and tools to make spreadsheets more resilient. Contact Arie van Deursen for more information.
In principle, in all projects TU Delft students can conduct M.Sc. or B.Sc. thesis projects, as interns with the companies involved. Availability may be vary, depending on, e.g., supervision capacity SERG or the company involved.
